A Forgotten City Reborn in Blocks
The Kowloon Walled City was once the most densely populated place on Earth—an urban anomaly packed with over 33,000 residents inside just a few city blocks. It was chaotic, lawless, unsanitary… and oddly beautiful. Now, thanks to Minecraft builder Sluda, this long-lost metropolis has been painstakingly rebuilt in-game, block by block.
In his mesmerizing YouTube video, Sluda takes us on a journey through the design, complexity, and humanity of Kowloon Walled City—demonstrating not just technical skill but storytelling mastery.

Why This Minecraft Build Matters
Sluda didn’t just recreate Kowloon as a visual reference—he engineered an explorable, walkable 3D maze, capturing the suffocating density, unique vertical layering, and the improvised architectural style of the original city.
Build Highlights:
- ✅ 3D Modeled Terrain: Sluda began with accurate topography, discovering a 14-meter slope across the site—something rarely noticeable in photos but crucial for realism.
- ✅ Insane Density: The build mirrors the real-life challenge of cramming entire neighborhoods into a space the size of four American football fields. And yet, it never feels repetitive—each structure is unique.
- ✅ Human-Scale Chaos: True to Kowloon’s chaotic character, Sluda incorporated hundreds of doorways, vertical passages, and interconnecting bridges, making the city feel alive and human-scaled.
- ✅ Authentic Materials & Facades: Using Minecraft mods like Axiom and World Edit, he recreated the distinct facade styles, rooftop mazes, and even chaotic electrical wiring visible in historic photos.
- ✅ Inspired by History: With help from the photobook City of Darkness by Greg Girard, Sluda was able to accurately represent architectural details rarely seen online.
“This might be the only city in history built entirely at the human scale.” – Sluda

What Makes This Minecraft Build So Unique
Unlike modern cities, Kowloon Walled City had no zoning laws, no fire codes, no real planning—just pure urban evolution driven by necessity. Sluda’s Minecraft build reflects this ethos. Every structure, corridor, and rooftop serves a purpose, just like it did in the real city.
He captures more than just buildings—he captures a lifestyle.
Walking through this Minecraft recreation feels less like a game and more like a digital archaeological experience.
